THE FAVORITE HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

PARENT AND TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

RECORDS COLLECTION

INTRODUCTION & HISTORY

The Favorite Hill Elementary School Parent and Teachers Association Records Collection was accessioned into the Piqua Public Library Archives and Special Collections in June 2015 on the occasion of the closing and impending demolition of the Favorite Hill School.  The records date from 1959 through 1989 and then from 2005-2006.  The records are housed in a single Hollinger box containing four files.  The records have been transferred to the Piqua Public Library and are available for use by the patrons for research.  The ownership and copyright of the records has passed to the Library and there are no known restrictions on the use of the records.

In 1955 the new Favorite Hill Elementary School opened at 950 South Street on the site of a previous Favorite Hill School which had been closed in 1949.  The new Favorite Hill School housed grades kindergarten through sixth grade.  A Parent and Teacher Association organization had been in existence in the former Favorite Hill School and carried over to the new building.  This organization continued as the Favorite Hill P.T.A. until August 1989.  In the summer of 1989 the Piqua City School District was reorganized with Favorite Hill becoming a first through third grade building and Favorite Hill’s fourth through sixth graders were sent to the newly designated Bennett Intermediate School.  At this time the Favorite Hill P.T.A. was disbanded.  On July 30, 2003 a constitution and by-laws were drawn up for a combined Favorite Hill/Bennett P.T.A.  That organization continued to exist and function until June 2015 at which time both buildings were closed (along with five other older elementary buildings) and the students were moved to either of the two new kindergarten  through third grade primary schools (Washington or Springcreek) or to Piqua Central Intermediate School (grades four through six).  At this point the organization was disbanded.
