HOME TOWN BUGLE COLLECTION

INTRODUCTION

The Home Town Bugle Collection was accessioned into the Flesh Public Library Archives in the summer of 2000.  The collection consists of 409 files contained in 7 boxes.  All materials date from the World War II period (1941-1945).  There are no known restrictions on the use of this collection.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Home Town Bugle Collection is divided into two Series.

SERIES I:  LETTERS TO A. J. KAISER FROM SERVICEMEN – this series consists of letters written by servicemen to A. J. Kaiser and is alphabetically organized by last name.  Thisseries is contained in Boxes 1 – Box 7, File 38.

SERIES II:  MISCELLANEOUS – this series consists of miscellaneous materials including issues of the Home Town Bugle, clippings, unidentified letters, indexes and photographs.  This series is contained in Box 7, Files 39 – 47.

HISTORY

Two Piqua organizations, Y.M.C.A. and The Philo Club combined their efforts to produce the Home Town Bugle, a condensed version of Piqua news from home, as well as items about Piquads serving abroad.  The Home Town Bugles were sent to Piqua natives in the Armed forces.  The bulk of the Home Town Bugle Collection consists of letters written by servicemen to A. J. Kaiser who maintained an address file of enlistees, as well as providing anecdotes to include in The Home Town Bugle.
