HISTORY

February 1895 found Gertrude Bowdle, a Piqua High School graduate of 1883; Harriet Frost Reiter (1867-1942) married in 1889, and Nellie Petticrew Cranston (1866-1939), also a Piqua High School graduate of 1883, studying for Teachers’ Certificates.  They had as mentor Miss Mary Hall, Principal of the High School.  Another mentor mentioned was the high school history teacher, Fletcher Moffitt.  Thus twelve years after these girls’ graduation, was laid the foundation of the History Club.  As time went on more and more ladies joined the club and the format grew and flourished with programs based on history, art, the Bible, politics, education, music, opera, literature, theater and nature.  The History Club met for the last time on 7 October 1991 and donated the remainder of their treasury to the Flesh Public Library.
